Hodge has announced that the new CPmage 1.6 is ready for download!
And we have 2 new advertisers supported! Chitika and Linkshare.
Chitika
Chitika is similar to Adsense in that you are paid per click. However, with Chitika, the ads are served based directly on search visitors and what they have searched for. This is an absolutely brilliant addition to Mage, since most of our traffic is from search visitors anyway. Example:
If you have a site about dog training – and your visitor finds your site by searching for “clicker training for dogs” through Google. When that visitor gets to your page, not only will they see your affiliate products or other promotions, they will also see an ad exactly for “clicker training for dogs”. If you visitor comes to your site through a bookmark or other link, no ad is displayed. Like Adsense, they have several different sizes.
To add it to new sites, simply checkmark the “Chitika” box when building a site with CPMage, and the code will be included in all of your pages.
If you build custom templates, the code to insert it is:
[affmage source="chitika" results="0"][/affmage]
You do not have to enter any number in results and you don’t have to use the {$KEYWORD} token.
If you want to add this to existing sites, follow this procedure:
1. Go to Posting Mage —> Templates. Add the code in the previous paragraph in the Template box and then click “Add Template”.
2. Next go to Posting Mage —>Repost Wizard
3. In the 2nd dropdown box, choose “Append the selected content to the existing posts”
4. In the right column, checkmark the template that you just created for chitika.
5. Click “Regenerate Posts”.
To get started, sign up with Chitika.
LINKSHARE will be covered in the next post.
Thanks for the heads up and the quick information Post.
I just downloaded it and upgraded my plugins – all went well.
I’m glad you included the specific password instructions with your email.
Have a Great Day!
Hi Esther,
I’m glad it was helpful.
Happy Maging!

What is the TOS of Chitika in terms of min content requirment to show ads? As I was still very hesitant to put adsense ads on any of my mage site due to the fact that most pages have very little content or no contents at all.
From Chitika’s website – irrelevant portions removed:
Chitika’s Site Requirements:
Exhibit A: Program Policies
All publishers who apply for the Paid Listings Distribution program are reviewed according to these program policies. We also monitor sites after they begin running the Paid Listings under this program. If a site is found to be in violation of our policies at any time, we will warn the publisher or suspend or terminate the account.
Account Transferability: Chitika’s Paid Listings Distribution accounts are not transferable, assignable or resalable in connection with the sale of your site or otherwise. For example, when a site changes ownership or management, the prior owner or manager must cancel the Paid Listings Distribution account for the site, and the new owner or manager may apply up for a new Paid Listings Distribution account in his or her name.
Ad Placement
* Multiple Paid Listings units may be displayed on each Web site page
* Paid Listings must not be displayed on any domain parking websites, pop-ups, pop-unders, error, registration, or “thank you” pages, or in any email.
* Paid Listings may not be placed on pages published specifically for the purpose of showing ads, whether or not the page content is relevant.
* Elements on a page must not obscure any portion of the Paid Listings, and the Paid Listings colors must be such that the ad text and URL are visible.
Language: The Paid Listings code may be placed on pages with content primarily in English. Paid Listings must not be displayed on any page with content primarily in an unsupported language, without prior written consent from Chitika.
Prohibited/Fraudulent Clicks: Any method that artificially and/or fraudulently generates clicks is strictly prohibited. These prohibited methods include but are not limited to: repeated manual clicks, using robots, automated clicking tools, or other deceptive software. Please note that clicking on your own Paid Listings for any reason is prohibited, to avoid potential inflation of advertiser costs.
Site Content: To maintain the integrity of the Chitika network, sites content may not include:
* Excessive profanity
* Illicit drugs and drug paraphernalia
* Pornography, adult, or mature content
* Gambling or casino-related content
* Hacking/cracking content
* Excessive advertising and/or incentives (monetary or point-based) to users or third-party beneficiaries for online activity including, but not limited to, clicking on ads or links, performing searches, surfing websites, reading emails, or completing surveys
* Pop-ups, pop-unders or exit windows that interfere with site navigation, obscure Paid Listings, change user preferences, or are for downloads. Other types of pop-ups, pop-unders, or exit windows may be allowed, provided that they do not exceed a combined total of 5 per user session
* Content related to the sale of:
o alcoholic beverages
o counterfeit or stolen items
o prescription drugs
o tobacco and tobacco-related products
o body parts and/or bodily fluids
o hazardous substances and materials
o weaponry, explosives, fireworks, and/or ammunition
* Propaganda, potentially offensive or controversial content
* Hate, violence, racial intolerance, or advocate against any individual, group, or organization
* Deceptive or manipulative content or construction to improve your site’s search engine ranking.
* Any other content that promotes illegal activity or infringes on the legal rights of others

Are able to do a little tutorial on how to set up Chitika ads as I found they are confusing. Which one should I choose among:
1.Collapse into nothing
2.Show a different ad (such as Google Adsense)
Add your Alternate URL for the other ad here (what is an alternate URL?)
3.Show Chitika Backfill (Chitika will show non-targeted filler ads)
Hi Alsonian,
I’m just using default settings. In affiliate mage, I’m just adding my username, choosing the mega-block and adding the code to my posts. I’ve only added it a few sites and I got my first click yesterday, so I’m pretty excited about this one!
Tracy
Tracy,
Guess it’s my day to bug you…sorry about that – but I do have another question.
I followed the above advice/directions on putting Chitika into an existing mage site. Now, all my posts have their AdSense ads showing OK, but at the bottom of my posts, there for all to see is the code for Chitika, and not the ad itself.
I noticed Chitika has different instructions for WP that include pasting my specific Chitika code into my WP Theme, and I want to place the Chitika ads in a specific place on all my posts, what am I doing wrong?
Jean
Hi Jean
If you want to have it in a particular place, you can use the whydoWork plug-in to work the same way as adsense. But if you can get it working correctly through the Posting Mage, it is much easier.
Drop me an email with a time we can talk on AIM and I can take a look.
Tracy
Hi Tracy,
Great info and much appreciated.
I followed your instructions (I thought) to add Chitika to my existing site. I forgot to put anything in Affmage. Nothing happened when I clicked on “Regenerate Posts”, I just got a blank screen with the WP column on the left.
I asked about this in the forum and Mike MC was nice enough to answer but I am still confused.
I went back into my admin area to put my ID in Affmage but the code I entered (from this blog)to update my posts with Chitika was there. How do I change that to get my ID/user name in Affmage?
Also does my user go into my Core Information in CPMage or the code given to me by Chitika?
Thank you for your help, I am so grateful I just can’t tell you!
Jamie
I am so new I blunder my way through these things!
Hi Jamie
Your username is the same as you would use to log in to Chitika. Go into Affiliate Mage, scroll down to the area where the Chitika settings are and put that username into the box where it asks for it and then choose a block size (I like the mega-block).
When you Regenerate, only PrePend it – what that will do is add it to the top portion of each post.
Keep in mind that Chitika shows to search engine visitors, so if you go to your site and don’t see ads, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you did it wrong.
In your Core information, yes, enter your Chitika username. That way, any future sites will already have this information added in when you create them.
If you need some help, drop me a note via email with your site link and more information about your question and I’ll see what I can do.
Tracy
Hello Tracy,
I signed up with Chitika through your link. You must have midas touch because they approved immediately and to my surprise because we have one mage user in the forum that after 2 to 3 days hasn’t heard from Chitika.
Anyway, my question is not about Chitika. It’s about those posts generated by CPMage automatically. When I went in wp-admin dashboard, Title, Description & Keywords of all posts are empty/blank. Do we have to fill these with their respective keywords or just leave them as is?
Thanks for your help.
Maria
Hi Maria
Great news about Chitika. I have been steadily getting clicks (although low-paying) with them.
Can you drop me an email with the site link so I can take a look? I’m not sure I’m following you on your question.
Tracy
TwinMom,
Does getting Chitika clicks seem to negatively affect your other monetization methods? I mean are you sacrificing clicks that could be going to ebay for clicks going to Chitika instead?
Have you noticed any drop in your ebay income (my primary monetization method) since you have implemented Chitika ads?
Thank you,
Nick
Hi Nick
Hmm, that is a good question. In theory, yes, I guess it could take away from other monetizations. I think that some people just dislike ebay though and won’t consider even looking their (my in-laws are like that), so I think it gives them other options.
I have not noticed a drop in revenue on ebay thus far. However, the number of Chitika clicks I get in proportion to ebay is insignificant in my opinion. I get 1 Chitika click for about every 500 clicks on ebay.
Hope this helps.

Hi Twinmom. I am a newbie who is absolutely terrified to start posting. I know it is counter productive to keep going over and over the material on Maging but I want to do everything right the first time. I have found your posts informative and easy to understand. I am going to take the plunge and I owe it all to you. Thank you.
